Spanish Moss wm

Spanish Moss

In the deep south one seldom sees huge trees such as the southern live oak without Spanish moss growing on it. The word “moss” is misleading since Spanish moss is actually a flowering plant in the bromeliad family – another bromeliad is the pineapple. This versatile vegetation is used as stuffing in mattresses and automobile seats, floral arranging and a variety of arts and crafts. Certain types of birds use Spanish moss to build their nests. This moss is sometimes used in making  “grass skirts”.  What a diverse range of uses, don’t you agree?
