Research reveals that Gustave Eiffel was not actually responsible for the design of this magnificent structure. It seems that Eiffel purchased the rights from three architects once he approved their plans. I won’t mention their names here because they would have little meaning to most of us, but anyone interested can take a peek at Wikipedia. However, Gustave Eiffel did oversee the Tower’s construction.

Taking two years to complete, the Eiffel Tower was presented at the opening of the 1889 World’s Fair. In 1889 there was fierce opposition to its construction, but today it is beloved as one of the most recognizable and most visited monuments in the world. In 2015 alone 6.9 million visitors ascended the tower, stopping at one of three observation decks.  Two of the decks have restaurants. I’m saving that treat for my next trip to Paris.
